NaNo?

I've been talked into NaNo-ing, by a friend who wants to give herself "permission to write crap, again" since she's feeling like she got a ways away from being able to just plough forward. (Like a lot of other writers, she works full-time as a freelancer, especially publishing kids, family, educational, and humor pieces.)

I'll confess I'm a bit seduced by the slogan "thirty days and nights of literary abandon" -- because, well, who wouldn't be?

I am nervous.

I've been thinking about it, as a jump-start. I won NaNo three years in a row (2002, 2003, 2004) and the only drawback is that I'm still reworking those manuscripts.

On the other hand, I always need to rework manuscripts, and I really need to rework my VP submission by starting over, so I might just do that for NaNo.

Hmmmm.

You can totally do it!

Remember, you can choose not to show it to anyone. Or you can choose not to show the first draft to anyone.

But an opportunity to write "just for me"? Go for it!

Oooh, good luck! I'll be thinking of you!

I support it! This year I'm doing an alternative version without the same word-count goal, but one year I wrote two childrens' novels, one year I wrote the last volume of a fantasy epic, and another the bulk of a novel I'd been dithering on.

It's a good way to force yourself past mental blocks, and practice the discipline, I guess, and you can always decide, "At the end of the month, NO MORE WRITING EVER".

hmmm...that does sound rather enticing, doesn't it?

Good luck! I hope you hit your goals, whatever you decide they are.

You guys are awesome. Thanks for the words of support! And yes - exactly. I just need the big push. I've been steadily writing again, without really thinking about word count. But a commitment to writing a LOT, writing HARD for a single month? That seems like it might be really useful, actually.

Good luck. I will be too busy making those edits from VP to Nano.
